Types of the MHD-equipment.       

 The MHD-stirrer consists of one-side flat-linear inductor (that creates a travelling magnetic field) with frame and cooling system, installed on the wall of the furnace, and of.

Metal flow path of a specific configuration (the channel) built into wall of the furnace. Metal flow path is made from high-temperature concrete, graphite boron silicated plates or from others high-temperature material that resists attack by aluminium and its alloys.

 The MHD-pump consists of: two, four, six... inductors (that creat a travelling magnetic field), frame, cooling system and hermetically sealed metal flow path (the channel) in the form of tube or in the another form made from high-temperature material that resists attack by melted aluminium (and its alloys), installed outside of the furnace.

 In the table are presented technical parameters and dimensions of the our most popular MHD-inductors and stirrers for mixing of aluminium and its alloys in the different furnaces at temperature up to 850 C, 380/480 V, 50/60 Hz, capacity from 100-200 t/hr up to 900 t/hr.

 The MHD-pumps are designed and manufactured with accordance to concrete technical parameters and purposes of using.

We hold 13 patents in Latvia, 5 patents in Russia, 32 author certificates of former USSR for the MHD-stirrers, inductors for stirrers and technological schemes of using the MHD-stirrers.

Patents owner: MHD SKB (Magnetohydrodynamic special design bureau) and its collaborators.

 

 Application.

Mixing of aluminium (alloy) inside of one-section furnace, transfer aluminium (alloy) from one section in another, metal charge from the furnace and so on.


 

Purpose


 

-by heat/mass transfer intensification in the furnaces to shorten time of hard charge melting;

- preparing of alloys, including high-alloyed many-components and                        

 high-temperature alloys;

-refening of alloys.


 

The advantages of the MHD-equipment


 

- absence of moving parts in the melt;

- easy in operation, possibility of capacity regulation 0-100% (from 0 up to 100%);

- high reliability, service life of MHD-inductor 1 year, in practise inductor is in operation more longer;

- possibility of operation " forward- backward";

- capacity for different furnaces and purposes from 20-50 t/hour up to 900 t/hour and more;

- high level unification of different construction;

- easy assembly and disassembly of the equipment.


 

 The MHD-stirrer enables the user


 

- to increase capacity of a furnaces by  15-20%, in individual cases to shorten time of preparing alloys up to 25%;

- to reduce metal losses by 15-20%, in individual cases- up to 30%;

- to reduce metal quantity in slags;

- to reduce fuel (energy) consumption for melting and preparing of alloy by 8-12% and more;

- to improve metal quality by providing homogeneity of the chemical composition of liquid metal and constancy of its temperature along all volume of the furnace;

- to reduce settling of slags on the furnace walls and in the path flow (channel) of the MHD-stirrer;

- correction number of alloy composition during its preparing is practically reduced, realabity of melting is increased.
